How much water do we need to apply to our turf grass in Houston, TX in an average March?
First, we take the historical ET (heat index) times the plant coefficient (how much we will allow plant to stress) and get our water requirement with no rain fall in the equation.
Ok – 4.32” (March ET) x .60 (stress factor) = 2.60” of water to replace ET. We now divide 2.60” x 4.5 weeks = .58” per week of water is required.
All this math is confusing so all you need to know is water your turf grass approximately ½” each week*. Roughly one half of what you will need in June, July and August with no rainfall.
